I've been on 400mg (200mg twice/day) for 4 years. It really pooped out and rather than go up on the dose, I have been trying to wean down 50mg every two weeks. On the third day, I started feeling burning in my chest that went away by adding back the original 50mg I went down. So, I went down 25mg this time i.e. 200mg in am and 175mg in pm. Again on day 3, I started feeling very anxious, with that pain in my chest, it feels like anxiety and a burning sensation right down the sternum. I decided to grin and bear it out and just took some xanax, but it didn't do much.
Now I'm down 50 mg after waiting 2 weeks, and on day 3 of being down to 175mg in am and 175mg in pm. I have been nauseated all day, chills and feeling terrible. No fever, so I upped the dose 25mg and within an hour, everything is feeling better. My doc wants to switch me to lexapro as my anxiety has been off the charts lately, but even if I take a 1.25mg dose of Lexapro, it throws me into a little bit of Serotonin Syndromw. I can feel the lexapro at 1.25 mg lift my spirits, but I can't tolerate it for more than two days without going into the syndrome. Any advice or help would be appreciated...Thanks in advance...Gary
