How to get husband to seek counseling? **trigger**

Posted by StrawberriesYum on November 2, 2005, at 2:57:51

He has some depression, since he's had to live with my conditions, and this last 9 months of me actually finding out some of the diagnoses on me, and this summer starting therapy and meds.

I also started cutting this summer, and became rather suicidal. And attempted last Friday, which he just found out today . . . he is freaking out, big time, but afraid to talk to me about it lest he make me worse. And I often don't react well to anything that seems like criticism. And he probably is mad at me in some respects, naturally, for trying that . . .who could blame him?

Anyway, for him we have access to free counseling for him. Through LDS Social Services, as we are LDS. Our bishop (our version of a pastor) has encouraged him to go, but the little I've talked to him about it, I've realized I'd better not or he WON'T go for sure.

Going to try to have a guy who knows about this stuff, talk to him. This guy has a daughter with bipolar, so he knows the system. Cause maybe he'll take it from a man, I dunno.

Any tips? And any tips on making it easier on him? I try, but alot of days it's all I can do just to cope with existing. And I know all my "stuff" is hard on him . . . .

And our daughter being diagnosed with HF autism this late spring, adds to the whole mess . . . . (which I suppose I can discuss on the parenting board)
