I don't get it - no SEs from missing Effexor dose!

Posted by Colleen D. on September 28, 2005, at 5:41:08

When I first started taking Effexor, I would get sweaty and dizzy and and headachey when I missed my dose. This would begin at the 26 hour mark after taking the previous dose. I usually take it at 6 a.m. and today I suddenly realized at 5 p.m. that I hadn't taken my Effexor and felt fine all day. I'm not here complaining about NOT having SEs, I'm just wondering what the implications are. Effexor is "supposed" to have a short half-life and that's "supposedly" why some folks have so much trouble when discontinuing it. Does this mean it has "pooped out" or does so much of it just remain in your body tissues when you've been on it awhile (for me 1.5 years) that the "withdrawal symptoms" just aren't there? Or could it be that the steady amounts of doxepin and clonazepam in my system are masking the typical Effexor withdrawal symptoms? I don't know what to think. If I feel fine without it, should I quit it and keep taking my doxepin and klonopin? I could sure put the money I fork out for it every month to better use.

Colleen

When I tried effexor I remember the pharmacist telling me it would take about a week to leave my system. She told me it was a long halflife. Fondly, Phillipa

Hey there! I also take Effexor xr and clonzeapam and i quit effexor cold and did not exp. any s/effects i have read so much about?? I would NOT recommend stopping w/o talking to ur doc 1st. I went 45 days trying *mind over matter* and then hit bottom. I started back on it the day after i had suicidal thoughts one night. U cld. be one of the few that ur body doesnt react like others. Take care!

When I dropped down Effexor, at the step from 35 mg to 0mg, the side effects didn't hit me right away, not for about 3 days. Then it was real tough. I think that half life is one thing, but the body's dependence is another...

I really think that it takes a good 4 months to be certain that Effexor is out of one's system (between my own experience and reading posts here).

Definitely don't go off anything without being under a psych's care!
