Withdrawling from hydrocodone

Posted by TBonz on October 18, 2005, at 0:01:41

Hi... This is my first time ever posting to a site, but I have found that trying to go through hydrcodone withdrawls alone sucks. I am no stranger to the battle of this addiction as i have gone through this four prior times. I guess you would think I would be a pro at this but I will be the first to tell you that I am no pro otherwise I would have learned the first time. I have been taking vicoprophen and norco 10/325 anywhere from 10 to 20 tabs a day for the past 4 months. It did not start out like that of course but since I have been through this before it took no time to escalate my dose. And now here I am again asking myself "What the Heck are you doing" I have been trying for the past week to withdrawl cold turkey. I seem to get to day 2 and cave in then feel guilty and start again. I am again going for it and was just looking for some support to help me through the times that I strat to feel the need to stray. I have tried to talk to people I know but they just don't get it. I am not sure if I am even doing this right as I have never posted before, but like I said even a guy who has been through it before would love some advise.

Thanks for listening,
TBonz

Hi TBonz.

I have no personal experience with opioid withdrawal, but I thought I could at least reply to your post to offer some support.

What methods have you tried to discontinue hydrocodone in the past? What alternatives are you aware of other than going "cold turkey"? Have you considered anaesthesia-assisted detoxification?

There is some thought that certain anticonvulsants can help mitigate the withdrawal syndrome. I have seen Tegretol, Neurontin, and Lamictal mentioned. Depakote doesn't seem to help that much. I have a feeling that Trileptal and Lyrica would also be useful.
